Video Clips of Flooding in the Third Ward--Longstanding Problems that have Persisted for Years, yet have gone on unaddressed. Areas filmed include those next to the 'Big and Little' property proposed for a 55-unit subdivision, and the area near the recently approved Alexa Meadows property. The Warren Place crossing is examined and filmed up until it over-tops its banks early on the morning of the 11th of March. On site from about 12:30 AM until daybreak monitoring the rising waters, and letting those responsible know what was happening.

Pictures below were taken March 19th after several concerns were being brought to our attention by residents in the area. These issues were discussed at the DPW Committee meeting on March 21, as seen in the video clip below.
City Wants to Sell Riverside Park Lands!

Your city government wants to SELL RIVERSIDE PARK lands to private developers to build residential housing--aka Rowhouses--right up to the river bank, and as high above it as they can get away with.

And how will that help business in Port Jervis: increasing the per lot density by 30 percent--more school age population= higher school taxes--that does NOTHING to help our business community.

While Mr. Hendry, Chairman of the Code Committee couches the new waterfront zone district as designed to encourage business investment in the Acre, we can only question why the majority of the  new zone development paperwork was centered around the Rowhouse proposal.  While other types of businesses and proposed uses are given a brief mention, the Rowhouse proposal is fleshed out in its entirely through 3 or 4 pages.

Done in Secret for Five Months

But it’s even worse than that. For five months, starting at the beginning of November of last year. Mr. Hendry, the Mayor, Mr; Kidney, the building official, and Ed Garling of Garling and Associates, have held high level meetings with as yet two unnamed other councilmen on this new zone district. Never in all that time, until the Code Committee meeting in April was this ever mentioned at the council meeting, or a the committee meeting.

And to add to this, the mayor authorized $6,500 in expenses to Garling and Associates, on top of the$4,400 already spent through last year. Over Ten Thousand of your tax dollars—and now they want to sell park land to build these rowhouses.

And why was this done this way? Because Mr. Hendry and mayor both knew that we have opposed this rowhouse proposal since it was first put out there in 2009. Now they put forward the exact same proposal—as part of a new water front zone—but the same proposal nonetheless. Except for the selling of city-owned Riverside Park land to accommodate them.
